AI-Driven 6G RAN Design for Efficient, Resilient and Environmentally Responsible Networks.

The DRIVING-6G project aims to develop and validate an AI/ML-driven framework for joint dynamic optimization of real-time sensing, computation offloading, communication and frequency/resource allocation in 6G RANs, leveraging cross-layer coordination protocols and decoupling ML algorithms from underlying RAN functions. In particular, DRIVING-6G will deliver solutions for multi-objective cross-layer RAN functions optimisations in real-time by integrating AI-powered cognition and collaborative intelligence. At the PHY/MAC, joint optimisations will be driven by advanced AI/ML technologies to orchestrate signal processing across the transmitter and receiver chains, enhancing system sustainability and computational feasibility for support of high throughput and low latency. Integration of sensing techniques with PHY layer optimisations will be implemented towards a ML-driven optimisation framework in support of multi-user resource allocation and for trustworthy communication links and increased reliability. AI and sensing-driven RAN optimisations will be achieved via sharing the intelligence among sensors for enhanced sensing capability.

The project REDIRECT assists the public and private sectors in adopting regenerative tourism practices that minimize negative impacts from tourism, while enhancing the condition of nature and cultural heritage sites.

The Baltic Sea Region is a particularly sensitive environment, susceptible to the effects of increased tourism. The negative impacts and disturbances of tourism are substantial. They include the depletion of natural resources as well as pollution and external disturbances of the environment. Tourism puts pressure on resources through over-consumption, often in places where resources are already scarce. This is why sector shift is necessary. Regenerative tourism is a sustainable approach to travel that aims to restore and replenish the environment that tourists visit. This type of tourism goes beyond minimizing negative impacts and strives to create positive outcomes for the destinations and people involved. The major actors in tackling this challenge are both public sector and private sector. The cooperation of both is essential for conscious tourism sector development. However the regenerative tourism is not well known, there is still lack of awareness, capacity and tools to make this approach integrated locally to decrease tourism impact. The challenge lies in effectively promoting regenerative tourism, as well as helping slowly adopting regenerative practices into the tourism sector planning processes in which REDIRECT will build solutions on. This approach will have a positive impact on the resilience of economies and communities, higher level of self-sufficiency in the tourism sector and on the awareness of the public, ultimately strengthening BSR culture and heritage.

Cirkulært kompetenceløft

The entire company needs to be on board when making production more circular. Therefore, small and medium-sized manufacturing companies must have access to the right skills – at all levels of the organization – to implement a green transition to circular production.

Today, just under 10 percent of the approximately 300,000 employees in the Danish manufacturing sector are involved in the work with circularity – and only a few are working in depth with the circular transition. This is evident from the Danish Circularity Gap Report, which was published in 2023.

These numbers may be an expression of the fact that there is a large, untapped competence potential that is paving the way for the transition to circular production.
With a targeted Danish focus on education, a circular competence upgrade must therefore be implemented for all employees in and around Danish industry.

Specifically, four strong educational institutions are joining forces – AMU Nordjylland, AMU Syd, UCN and IBA Erhvervsakademi Kolding – to develop and test a holistic competence model, where all levels and types of employees in the companies are engaged and trained.

In this way, the circular mindset is high on the agenda of boards of directors, management, middle managers and operators, and they also receive the necessary tools and skills to create circular change in practice.

METACITIES EXCELLENCE HUB for SOUTH-EASTERN Europe.
The METACITIES Excellence Hub is a sustainable network that offers a common platform for collaboration, cross-fertilization, and best practices sharing across borders, sectors and disciplines on knowledge production, circulation and use. Founded upon a joint R&I strategy, a nexus of collaborative links across sectors, joint research, innovation and outreach activities as well as business modelling and sustainability plans, the collaboration aims to benefit citizens, stakeholders, regional ecosystems and the whole SEE region. The thematic focus on future and metaverse cities necessitates the definition of ambitious R&I agendas and the uptake of advanced digital technologies. Digital Twins (DT) of future cities/regions provide accurate and reliable reference representation seamlessly unifying the physical, digital and human worlds and enabling stakeholders to assess the effects of any changes before investments and implementations actually occur. The proposed Open Digital Twin Framework facilitates co-development of complementary future city domains along with their equivalent DTs. The applied Quadruple Helix Model forges synergies among actors and alignment of public and private sector priorities for regional development. PoC studies, small-scale pilots and feasibility assessments validate project outcomes. Green Business and Operation Models will be developed for future and metaverse cities, as well as for the METACITIES Excellence Hub. Investment and Sustainability Plans will mobilize the communities of the three innovation ecosystems to progress faster in joined efforts. Common investment plans for R&I, infrastructures and support for real-life experimentation, aim to leverage national, regional and European funds as well as crowd funds and private capital in a synergetic manner.
